Full-time education is compulsory for children in the UK. If you are coming to the UK with your family, you will need to enrol your children in school if they are between five and sixteen years old. Most parents typically start earlier than the compulsory age, enrolling their children in nursery at three or four years old.
There are two levels of compulsory education. Children attend primary school until they are eleven years old, before progressing onto a secondary school. At sixteen, they may then choose to progress onto further education for another two years, followed by higher education.
To find a school, enter your postcode in the gov.uk search engine below. You will then be directed to the website of the local authority responsible for schools in your area, where you can find information on individual schools and details on how to apply for a place for your child.
