The Challenge
Tiro was approached to urgently fill a key Project Manager post for a specialist industrial manufacturer entering a critical capex investment program.
Technical Brief
- A continuous process manufacturing company with limited shutdown windows
- Build, commission, and handover over of a new CHP power facility
- Power and steam generation critical to the whole manufacturing process
- Multiple key internal and external contractor (construction – equipment) stakeholders
- This was a fixed term 18-month contract employed as a direct employee of the business as opposed to a contract day rate.
- Requirement to deliver a highly skilled and experienced engineer who would be available to manage the entire end to end process
Key Issues faced by Tiro
The business had been let down twice, each time after offering 18-month fixed-term contracts to two separate candidates. Both accepted, signed—and then withdrew after being offered permanent roles elsewhere.
The existing market had been exhausted internally and through existing PSL arrangements with external suppliers.
This left the business in a precarious position ahead of a major CapEX project and during a critical production ramp-up. Without the right expertise in place, project delays threatened that would lead to significant financial losses and delay.
Tiro’s Solution
Strategic Market Mapping
Tiro’s first step was rigorous market mapping. We targeted companies with long-term contractors, businesses undergoing redundancies, and those employing contractors in extensive field-based roles.
Proactive Headhunting
Both traditional advertising and passive candidate searches were bypassed. Instead, Tiro directly headhunted proven professionals, ensuring access to candidates who were not actively seeking roles elsewhere—critical for urgent, fixed-term positions.
Consultative Approach
We invested time to fully understand the client’s operations and culture. This enabled us to showcase not just the role, but what makes the company unique—both its immediate challenges and its long-term opportunities.
The Outcome
Our discreet, targeted search identified a highly qualified Project Manager who had recently been made redundant and was consequently not seeking immediate re-employment. Previously field-based, he found the prospect of a local, 18-month contract appealing as it avoided relocating and enabled greater work–life balance. Once the project details and company culture were explained, the candidate was eager to pursue the opportunity.
