Case Study – Replacing a Long-Standing Senior Manager Integral to the Company’s Success

The Brief

Tiro was recommended to the Manufacturing Director of a prestigious food manufacturer in North London who was struggling to find a qualified replacement for his Site Engineering Manager. The current job holder had been instrumental in the site’s success over the last 15 years and was very popular by all of his team, so they were big shoes to fill.

This was an exciting role with guaranteed fast-track progression to General Manager. The current GM would be progressing to a Director-level position in the next two years. It was therefore imperative that the new Site Engineering Manager had the capability to step up.

The Challenge

Before approaching Tiro, the Manufacturing Director had been working with two recruitment companies for four weeks. The position had been extensively advertised, but the recruiters had failed to understand the role and therefore presented candidates that were available rather than suitable. This misalignment highlighted the importance of a tailored strategy to ensure the right fit for a critical position.

Location was another issue, North London is notoriously difficult to navigate, meaning this would severely reduce the number of candidates willing to travel to the area.

Tiro Solution

Detailed Role Analysis: to really understand the technical skills, leadership responsibilities, company cultural and career progression. Tiro worked closely with the Manufacturing Director to identify the specific skills and experience he wished to emulate from the previous manager, plus new expertise that would further add value to the role.

Priority Plan: Developed a detailed hiring plan with set stage gates, ensuring a smooth and seamless process. We suggested Tiro conduct the 1st stage interview on the Director’s behalf,  saving the company time and resources, while also increasing the likelihood of finding a candidate who perfectly matched the requirements.

Company Mapping: Tiro mapped all companies within the North London area, networking with engineers and directors in these organisations to find and recommend suitable candidates.

Outcome

Tiro’s comprehensive and strategic approach to recruitment ensured that the food manufacturer in North London found a highly qualified replacement for their Site Engineering Manager. By leveraging detailed role analysis, a stage gated priority plan, company mapping, and a robust headhunting process, Tiro successfully filled the critical role within six weeks. In today’s market, finding the right talent requires more than just posting a job advert. Scarcity of specialised skills and competition for top talent means recruitment has become increasingly complex. Tiro thrives in this space, using tailored recruitment strategies to connect businesses with the hard-to-find individuals who make a real difference.

We offer results without compromise by combining deep industry knowledge with access to “passive” candidates i.e. people not actively looking for a career change. People that are good at what they do, tend to be happy in their roles, and it is these high calibre individuals that could be perfect fit for your company. Partnering with Tiro gives you best-in-industry talent reach and confidence that every hire is the right one. The result? A recruitment process that saves time, reduces risk, and ensures the best people are placed at the heart of your company’s future.
