Working for  one of the world’s largest producers of electrically powered steering systems, supplying a wide range of global vehicle manufacturers. Key to vehicle safety these products must meet stringent legislative requirements while also satisfying increasing demands from end-users, resulting in a highly technical product that requires high calibre engineers.

This is an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer to perform the role of Senior Development / Component Engineer for the Gearbox Team for all customer projects. You will work with suppliers, SDE, Quality, Production and project teams to deliver components to meet company and customer requirements. You will hold full responsibility for the technical content of the project, including design, specification and adherence to timing to achieve performance criteria. The role is ideally suited to an engineer with previous experience of product design, development and if possible, knowledge of bearings.
What you’ll do

“ Develop the component specification and flow down
“ Communicate any risks or issues back to the Gearbox Team Leader & EPS Core Engineering Team
“ Apply sound engineering approach to the sub system development
“ Responsible for design and associated documents eg. DFMEA, DVP,DFM
“ Negotiate with component suppliers to achieve specification requirements
“ Develop and manage timing and deliverables for the sub-system
“ Manage DVP, submit test plan, manage component control plans
“ Supervise junior engineers & students within the team
“ Control and progress engineering changes and resolve issues (Engineering Issue Resolver)

What we are looking for

Essential:
“ Degree level qualified in a relevant engineering discipline with practical engineering experience
“ Excellent understanding of mechanical component design and development
“ Rigorous and positive approach to issue resolution & problem solving, eg 8D
“ Demonstrated ability to work proactively
“ Knowledge of a range of engineering disciplines
“ Experience with steering and steering products such as bearings & friction 

Desirable:
“ Leadership of projects or programmes
“ Experiment design experience using DOE or Six Sigma methodologies
“ Experience of NVH
