As the Product Development Manager with a leading global consultancy your role will be to manage a small team of Product Managers with day to day responsibility for ensuring efficient and effective running of the Department. You will also be the lead of several virtual teams leading programme / project delivery. Candidates must have gained their product management experience (establishing prices and specs for vehicles) with an automotive (or agricultural OEM) and be an experienced line manager.
 
Responsibilities include:

Management of product portfolio:
“ Act as the primary point of contact for the Market Development Managers and Research teams for new product development or product enhancement for the respective products
“ Manage the change requests for existing products within the portfolio
“ Work with the Business to assess market potential for new or enhanced products as part of sector/corporate planning, including leading the analysis of products/services to assess developments costs/returns on investment and product/service profitability
“ Manage new product/service ideas through the product development process
“ Manage the entire product lifecycle from planning to tactical market execution
“ Understand the activities of the competition in detail, relative to the product portfolio managed

Ensure delivery excellence
“ Prepare thorough business requirements for all new activities.
“ Ensure detailed and rigorous project management is implemented and followed, incorporating engagement with all appropriate stakeholders.
“ Deliver excellent project management:
o Manage virtual teams to facilitate successful and effective delivery
o Highlight and lead resolution of any areas of project conflict or scheduling
o Highlight and escalate any slippage that affects launch dates and lead required recovery efforts to meet launch dates

 
Support the commercial leveraging of products/services developed
“ Support the respective Market Development Manager to ensure effective launch of products/services within the portfolio
“ Collate and manage information to enable benefits based messages to be communicated about the product/service to the market
“ Coordinate with Marketing Communications launch activities and sales enablement material
“ Coordinate internal launch activities involving all required Departments; Training, Business Development, Support and Fulfilment

The ideal candidate:
“ Business related degree preferred, but equivalent experience equally important.
“ Solid product management experience with demonstrable success in defining and launching products, including establishing price and specifications for vehicles
“ Experience in working directly for an Automotive (or Agricultural) OEM, ideally from varying departments within an OEM
“ Solid experience in the line management of a team consisting of 2 or more people
“ Experience in using data from various sources to create reports about the competitive set and environment
“ Strong knowledge of automotive OEM’s product lifecycle processes
“ Experience working in the OEM’s central functions is desired but not mandatory
“ Experience in writing business cases
“ Programme / Project management experience, including using project planning tools is strongly desired, but not mandatory
“ Experience in writing business requirement documents is desired but not mandatory

“ Proactive thinker about how to evolve portfolio of products/services to maximise revenue potential and develop new offerings
“ Strong leadership skills and ability to influence cross functional teams without formal authority to ensure delivery against agreed plan, budget and timeline
“ Strong end-to-end product management skills from concept through to market launch/delivery and ongoing review
“ High PC literacy including Microsoft Office Products and Project Planning tools (Project planning tools desired)
“ Strong communication and presentation skills
“ High attention to detail
“ Highly organised
“ Gravitas to engage customers
“ Excellent teamworking skills
