As Principal Engineer you will be required to design and develop electronic hardware and software for the Prodrive Automotive Technology (AT) range of electronic products. Undertaking electronics project work for Prodrive AT clients as well as keep abreast of future developments in the field of electronics, in particular those areas relevant to the automotive industry.

You will be part of a small team developing a range of electronic products responsible for the design, development and testing of both electronics circuitry and associated software. As this is a senior role, the person will be expected to take responsibility for technical decisions and will also need to work with the minimum of supervision.  Part of the role will involve direct customer contact and so it is important that the person is able to communicate well both verbally and in writing.

Other responsibilities will include;

Design and development of electronic circuitry (includes analogue, digital, microprocessor & power electronics)

Electronic circuit simulation and analysis

Specification and selection of electronic components

Preparation of electronic schematics and associated PCB layouts

Testing and evaluation of electronic components

Validation of electronic systems

Preparation of FMEAs and design validation documentation

Preparation and monitoring of project plans

You will need to educated to degree level in Electronics Engineering or similar with a solid experience in industry experience in Electronics. You must possess good attention to detail and have a practical approach to problem solving.

Must haves include:

Experience in analogue, digital, microprocessor circuit and power electronics design

Use of CAD to produce electronic circuit schematics and PCB layout

Good understanding of robust engineering practices such as FMEAs, Change Management, Design Reviews, etc

Knowledge of automotive communication protocols, particularly CAN
