Role: Principal Design Engineer – Transmissions & Hydraulic Component Design

As the Principal Design Engineer you will technically lead design activities within the Vehicle Design department supporting the Engineering function in an exciting and growing working environment. Projects are likely to be vehicle related, however the variety of our work means that you could be working on non vehicle projects which require technical solutions.

Responsibilities include:
Technical responsibility for Design within the Vehicle Department
Technical responsibility for Analysis within the Vehicle Department either through own utilisation of analysis tools, or in conjunction with Analysis engineers to ensure the Design requirements are achieved
Responsibility to sign off components design
Coaching and supervision of Graduate to senior engineers
Technical liaison with customers, suppliers and manufacturing
Support the Team Leader, and Chief Engineer in directing the future growth of the Vehicle department within Automotive Technology
Support the Chief Engineer in recruitment activities
Support the Team Leader and Chief Engineer in writing client quotations
Completion of 3D CAD component models and systems
Completion of 2D detail drawings of components
Supplier liaison, to enable completion of component designs
You are likely to be requested to lead projects; managing the team, budget, and timing
Write effective and appropriate reports to document your work. Sign off reports by more junior Engineers
 
The ideal candidate will be an experienced senior engineer that has gained their automotive systems design experience within an automotive OEM/1st tier/consultancy. Key skills required include:
Experience of managing projects
AMT design experience
Transmission and hydraulic component design
Concept design
Catia v5
