You will be part of a team responsible for a critical steering component that has recently won plaudits for this global automotive company from the motoring press. This component defines the steering feel of the vehicle and you will help ensure these high standards are maintained on recent business awards and support the development of the next generation. You will be responsible for the development, specification & implementation of the control algorithms to deliver exceptional system level performance.  As the system is a complex electro-mechanical system, a detailed understanding of control theory & application will be backed up with a sound knowledge of electronics, mechanics and sensing and actuation technologies. There may also be opportunities to become involved in the development of higher-level vehicle control functions.

What you’ll do:
Lead the development of control solutions for a new business award with a major automotive vehicle manufacturer.  This will include the design and specification of the controller and associated test cases, verification and sign-off of the controller implementation and documentation of the method of tune at vehicle level
Lead engineering activities at customers, for example by preparing explanations and/or demonstrations of control system functionality
Review and approve system changes that may have an impact on steering feel performance
Develop implementations of control functions using automatic code generation from controller models using tools such as Targetlink
Lead investigations into control performance issues, establish root cause and issue fault reports

What we are looking for

Essential:
2.1 or better engineering degree with an emphasis either through a project, work experience or course modules on the control of dynamic systems
Higher degree in control engineering or equivalent experience in a range of control techniques and methods coupled with a pragmatic approach to real-world control engineering
Practical knowledge of the fields of simulation, modelling of dynamic systems, controller design and discrete-time systems
Able to work motivate and work effectively within a team with a strong positive attitude

Desirable:
Knowledge of automatic code generation from models using tools such as Targetlink
Knowledge of real-time embedded software (using C) and fixed-point implementations
In-depth knowledge of Matlab & Simulink
Knowledge of vehicle chassis dynamics, electric drives or electro-mechanical systems
Knowledge of Rapid Control Prototyping with dSpace
